Summer Activities At Historic Pittston Farm

Summertime here is nearly "perfect", usually not to hot or cold. However, it is our shortest season to enjoy the most variety of activities, so we suggest you get out of the house and enjoy new views and opportunities by coming to a little used area of our state. Remember the following are only suggestions, if you just want to sit and do nothing other than listening to the sounds around you, please "Do Whatever" your heart desires while here, after all, that is what a vacation is for!

Camping Experience: Want to enjoy the out-of-doors with a camper trailer, 5th wheel, Class A motor home, tent or anything in between? We have a place for you!. Our campground includes 30 amp electric, dump station, fresh water, horseshoe pit, fire rings, and lots of space for family gatherings. The best part? Our restaurant is just on the hill, why cook? We also invite you to be a part of our family on Monday nights: Movie Night in the Pittston Farm Chapel starts at 7:30pm and everyone is invited to watch a great movie on our large screen. We'll have fresh hot popcorn and other snacks for your enjoyment. Movie night is FREE to all.

Water Activites: We hope you like the water and if you do you'll want to come back again and again. Canoing, kayaking, White-water rafting, swimming, fishing via boat or wading in our many streams. Our canoes, kayaks, PFDs, and paddles are ready and waiting for you...so is the fish. Call us for more details.

White Water Rafting on the South Branch of the Penobscot River: Do you want a special gift for that special person? Why not come and experience some of the Best there is for Class 5 water! All trips are guided with Northeast Whitewater Rafting, www.northeastguideservice.com. They meet you here, and take you 3 miles up to Canada Falls for an experience on the water you'll never forget. They are the only commercial rafting outfitter on the South Branch at Canada Falls. They pride themselves on small personalized whitewater rafting trips. Don't miss out, just call here to reserve your space. These are offered every Saturday during July and August.

Wildlife Viewing Offerings are varied: There are different opportunities as no size fits all. Guided Boat Wildlife tour no more than 3 at a time and 4 hours long: Best done in the early AM on Canada Falls Lake by our licensed Maine Guide with 30 years experience. Secondly our Wildlife Tours via our 15 Passenger Van or 6 Passenger SUV: Depending on the numbers of people we are taking and weather conditions which will determine the vehicle we use. What a fun time this is! Our licensed guide (owner) and usually myself, his wife Jen, will take you truly on back roads, you never thought would be accessible. We never know what we'll see for wildlife, usually moose, deer, bear, and smaller animals but always a great time. This tour is about 4 hours long too. Both these tours have a picnic lunch (or dinner) as part of the tour and we'll find a great spot to enjoy it. Our third option: Go on your own, where you want, and when you want. We suggest caution and some common sense with this option, so be careful and know the limitions of your vehicle. We know you will enjoy our personelized service and our down-home hospitality.

Hiking: We have a trail close by called Green Mountain, (Directions available here). This is an easy to moderate hike, about 5 miles from our lodge is where it starts and takes about a little over an hour. It affords nice views, on a clear day of about 100 miles in all directions from the fire tower. We highly recommend it. There are many other hikes too, Mt. Katahdin is only a 1 1/2 hour drive to our east with several hikes for all levels of hikers, or one of our many logging roads. Try a walk to Canada Falls to see the falls or watch the white water rafters come floating by. Maybe its the quietness of the causeway at Seboomook Lake, or just a walk in the woods about anywhere here. We'll give you hints, just ask us.

Horseback Riding: This is a new activity at Historic Pittston Farm and we will be expanding our trails in the future. This is a BYOH.....That's right..Bring-Your-Own-Horse. Experience the natural trails in these woods. Our current trails, is our multiuse recreational trail, which gives 50 miles to Jackman. There is a campsite about 20 miles out from us, which would make a nice over-night stop and they are FREE. You'll be riding on logging woods and on a wooded trails. This is natural riding at its best. We also will board your horse for you. Any questions, just call. These trails will not be open until the last of June due to weather conditions.

Fishing: Native Brook trout is our speciality! Wether you enjoy catch and release or a nice pan full of trout with your breakfast in the morning. You need to come and see us for nice places to fish and connect with nature. Kelvin, our cook, LIVES to fish and he'll share any information with you to make your fishing trip one you'll remember for a long time to come.

ATV RIDING: : For the first time ever, ATVs have arrived and it is our hope they'll use us as a destination for their vacation choice! You can ride your ATV from Jackman, Rockwood, and Greenville to us on the current trail. The new connecting trail to Jackman will run about 8 miles to us via Plum Creek Timberland, to the State of Maine Seboomook Unit, to our property line at Historic Pittston Farm. This will be a combined ATV and multiple use recreation trail. The trail can also be used for mountain biking, and horseback riding. It will be our privilege to provide you with the same amenities our snowmobilers have enjoyed for years, great food, needed items like gas and oil, and wonderful lodging. Also, don't forget to bring your fishing pole! Why not spend the night with us in our cabin or carriage house and just about dusk, take a walk down to the South branch of the Penobscot River at the bridge for some nice fishing for native brook trout, or use our canoe or kayak and go for a sunset ride. Enjoy listening to the night sounds and then in the morning one of our cooks will prepare your fish the way you like it for breakfast along with the rest of our wonderful breakfast dishes. We are truly excited about this new venture.

Renewable Wind & Solar Power System Tours: Our new Renewable Wind and Soloar Power system has gone on line! We are pround to be certified by Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection as Green, an environmental leader in the state. It will be our pleasure to give tours and answer any questions we can about this project, the first ever in the North Woods. We still have some work to complete the finishing touches, but it hopefully will produce about 70-75% of our energy needs. Again, please watch our "Going Green Blog" for updates.

Pittston Farm Chapel: Our chapel in the woods is an open door to all who pass by this way. Everyone, of all ages, and faiths are welcomed. This is a non-demonitional chapel where the word of God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is proclaimed in word, song, and hopefully deed by each of us daily. We are a welcoming congregation, even though sometimes small, where two or three are gathered together our Lord is there with us. Please come, as you are, no special dress is required. Our services start at 10:30 and run about 45 min. God gives you all week...we should give him back some of our time. Our service is a combination of praise, prayer, and promise. The chapel is open all week for people to spend some quiet time there, to visit, pray or reflect. Services are held from the middle of May through Dec 24th, Christmas Eve, for our Candle & Carols Service. We hope you will join us.
